ABOUT EARTHOPIA®

Earthopia® — The Other World
Earthopia is an editorial house devoted to the world’s most considered places. Founded by a globally awarded writer-photographer with over two decades in media, Earthopia® approaches each property as a spiritual treasure. We work slowly, selectively, and with a clear point of view. Each collaboration is conceived as a quiet body of work—designed to endure beyond campaigns and seasons.

We produce four expressions:

A Cinematic Portrait
A package of three 7-minute films, made with patience. Released to a global audience that values place over spectacle.

A Printed Monograph
An elegantly produced monograph—text and photographs on the property and its people. To place in rooms or offer to distinguished guests and well-wishers. Plus, a digital edition for free giveaway.

Editorial Presence
Inclusion in the Earthopia digital magazine, where each property is positioned within a wider landscape of culture, design, and refined living.

A Lasting Record
A permanent Earthopia page—a living record of the property. Searchable over years to come and revisited by a discerning readership.

"It was a full-moon night. The cicadas had gone to sleep, as had the big and little beasts that had been chattering and baying at the dusk. Through an eerie silence, Manu walked in the woods, spotting on the jungle path the milky silver moonlight drops filtering through the treetops: the magical cosmos of a silver-glazed forest. Even through the silence, he sensed how alive the dark was, however alone he appeared to be."

In this much-acclaimed collection of real-life stories of nine unknown men and a woman, Joshua Newton reveals deep truths about the Indian ways of living.

"Newton builds up scenes quite subtly. He has a talent in disclosing charmingly, the hidden truths about life and cultures!"

Author of eight novels including 'Ancient Promises'

"Reading Joshua, I felt the thrill that must have gripped the world when New Journalism appeared first in the sixties."

A delicate and poignant story of friendships and shadows.

Widely acclaimed as the 'coming-of-age' of Malayalam cinema, Ritu remains the quintessential poster child of the industry's new wave. Even years after its release—and amidst an avalanche of contemporary films—critics continue to praise its sensitive, melancholic portrayal of the tumultuous emotions ravaging three young minds at the pinnacle of success. It is an engrossing, intricate slice-of-life that deftly captures the nuances of growing up together and,
ultimately, growing apart.

"..the star of the film is most definitely the script, which builds the characters and plays with the emotions
and internal conflicts."

FAQ WITH AUTHOR
Joshua Newton

1. What do you write mostly?

I specialise in creative non-fiction and literary storytelling. Portrait profiles, narrative non-fiction, life writing.. If something needs to be explained clearly, I think I’m useful.

2. Are you an author or a ghostwriter who writes for others?

Both. Some projects need my name while others need my discretion. I have ghostwritten five much-appreciated books for high net-worth individuals across India—some of them published by Penguin Random House and Rupa Publishers.

3. Do you accept assignments from editors or publishers?

Yea, I write literary essays, travel pieces, and cultural features commissioned by editors and publishers seeking distinctive, contemplative non-fiction. My work has appeared in over 60 publications worldwide. I bring decades of editorial experience to every assignment.

4. What’s your process for commissioned work?

First I listen and do research to understand the need for the narrative, then the beneficiary audience, and the final goal. I then propose a structure, tone, and timeline. Writing is done in close consultation, with drafts shared at key timeline milestones. Earthopia® also offers design, printing, production and publishing support as well.

5. Mind telling us about your background?

I worked as a reporter and features editor for Indian newspapers and American and British magazines for more than two decades. Other than the five ghostwritten books for clients, I've to my name a book of philosophical notes, two creative non-fiction books, two movies and a spiritual thriller novel. A brief overview appears on my Wikipedia page.

7. How can we get in touch with you?

Please reach me at josh@earthopia.co. Happy to reply promptly.

6. What makes your writing unique?

Well, that's for you to judge :-) I think I write with a contemplative eye—bringing literary grace, some philosophical depth, and a cultural sensitivity to the final material. Whether it’s a village healer or a global CEO, I try to reveal the soul of the subject. Twenty-plus years in journalism taught me to understand systems, people, and their blind spots as well.
